Around My World
The goal was to create a cookbook where audiences would find the recipes and information easily digestible as well as engaging. Very early on I chose to center my family as the audience for the project, as the recipes that I pulled from directly came from, and were made by them. For the design itself, I applied a muted but vivid color palette as well as a focus on warm tones in order to give the cookbook a comforting, homey feel. Additionally I chose to include images and memories of my family, invoking the feeling of a photo album, as I wanted the project to feel personal, like a gift to them. I did run into the problem of cohesiveness with the images, as they clashed with my illustrative elements, but this was easily fixed by applying a color overlay to the photos at random to help blend the elements more seamlessly. The result is a gift to my family, which takes them and any other readers on a delicious journey down memory lane.
