The challenge was to create letter forms from scratch that would communicate to audiences our view on a socio-political topic of our choosing. I decided to dedicate my project to the ongoing Genocide happening in Gaza, bringing awareness to the unjust and cruel conditions still happening in Gaza today. Sketching the letterforms in the beginning, I chose to model them resembling the collapsed buildings lining what were once Gaza’s streets as I wanted to communicate how Gaza is literally being erased off of the map. When crafting the crumbling letterforms of the words “ERASED”, it was hard to determine what the word was spelling So to combat this I added a drop shadow of the original letter underneath, so the audience could still read the word with ease. In the end, I constructed a quick and to the point call of action, demanding that you not avert your eyes to the blatant human suffering scattered across our screens.
